  6. GENERAL
  7. INFORMATION:   Listed below, are Proteon 16-bit ISA cards that do     
  8.                busmastering:
  9.   
  10.                P-1347, P-1346, P-1345, P-1344 
  11.   
  12.                These cards will not work in an EISA machine (or any other
  13.                machine) with over 16MB of RAM with NetWare 386 v3.1 unless
  14.                the STARTUP.NCF contains the following setable;
  15.  
  16.                "SET AUTO REGISTER MEMORY ABOVE 16 MEGABYTES = OFF." 
  17.  
  18.                The reason for this parameter is that NetWare v3.1
  19.                arbitrarily assigns DMA and busmastering memory addresses
  20.                anywhere it likes.  These cards will not see memory
  21.                addresses above 16MB.

  23.                The NetWare 386 v3.1 README file states the following: 
  24.  
  25.                "EISA computers:  If your EISA file server contains more
  26.                than 16MB of RAM, do not use 8-bit PC or 16-bit AT boards in
  27.                the file server if the board uses busmastering or DMA. 
  28.                Check with the manufacturer for more information."  
  29.  
  30.                This can apply to any file server that contains more than
  31.                16MB of RAM, not just with EISA machines.  If you use 8-bit
  32.                or 16-bit AT cards, the above "SET" command must be present
  33.                in the STARTUP.NCF or these cards will not work in file
  34.                servers with over 16MB of RAM.  This will force the DMA or
  35.                busmastering memory assignments made by the operating system
  36.                to occur below the 16MB RAM location.
